CARRIAGES WINES
Carriages Wines is located in the very heart of Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley, surrounded by some legendary wineries. Our small 5 acres is carefully managed by the owner and Vigneron, the bunches hand picked for optimal quality, and harvested fine Shiraz and Chardonnay grapes that are then converted into delicious wines by one of the Hunters best winemakers.
The vines were planted in 1998 on a gentle sloping terrain in terra rossa clay and loam soil. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm often humid summers set off by late afternoon coastal breezes. Our 3 dams provide plenty of irrigation during the dry months of late summer to ensure full ripeness and maturity. The warm nights encourage early maturing and so the Hunter is typically the first major region to harvest, adding to the unique style of a medium body, with full ripe plum and berry flavours.

SHIRAZ
2024 SHIRAZ

A softer Shiraz this year, picked earlier to avoid late rains, has produced a stunning red lighter in style and alcohol, delicious with a charcuterie platter and most Asian style dishes.
Great drinking now and will cellar well for 10 years.
Growing season – Mild winter leading into good spring rains providing a full canopy and protection from a warm summer. Hand-picked a week early to avoid late rain and possible hail conditions.

2023 SHIRAZ

A typically medium body style Hunter red the vintage, showing a richness of dark fruit flavours and lingering spice notes. Lighter in alcohol but retaining full plum and red berry flavours.
Growing season – Warm and sunny spring for budburst was followed by cooler December. January saw a mix of hot days with more rain continuing through February. Harvesting occurred mid-February.

2020 SHIRAZ

This is a special vintage coming at the tail of the worst dry period on record and severe bushfires all along the eastern seaboard. We were fortunate to avoid any smoke impact and the result is an earthy full Shiraz with dark fruit flavours and soft tannins from 16 months in older oak barriques. Suitable for cellaring up to 15 years.
Suggested to enjoy this with a prime fillet steak, hearty stew or aged cheddars.

2018 SHIRAZ

An excellent vintage for the Hunter acclaimed by critics as matching the heights of 2014. Our Shiraz enjoyed early spring rains that continued through the season to February with few high temperatures recorded. Suitable for cellaring up to 15 years.
Pairs well with BBQ and roasted meats.

Fresh and lively showing regional white peach and nectarine fruit with balancing creamy touches. 6 months in French oak provides fine structure with subtle lingering oak. Limited release.
